Fire Alarm Systems for
Care Homes
Specialist Fire Alarm Solutions for Residential Care and Assisted Living Facilities
Care homes present some of the most demanding fire safety environments, where protecting residents, staff and visitors depends on reliable fire detection, effective evacuation procedures and carefully designed fire alarm systems. Many residents may have reduced mobility, cognitive impairment or require assistance during an evacuation, making early fire detection and a robust fire strategy essential.
At Liberty Systems, we provide professional fire alarm design, installation, commissioning, maintenance and fault-finding services for residential care homes, nursing homes, assisted living facilities and supported living accommodation throughout the East Midlands.
Our engineers understand the unique requirements of care environments and deliver dependable fire alarm solutions designed to support both resident safety and regulatory compliance.
As a BAFE-registered fire detection and alarm systems contractor, we deliver dependable solutions backed by professional workmanship, relevant insurances and health and safety associations as well as comprehensive documentation and a commitment to compliance.
Fire Alarm Systems Designed Around Your Fire Strategy
Every care home should have a fire strategy that reflects the layout of the building, the needs of its residents and the evacuation procedures in place.
Unlike many commercial premises, evacuation within a care environment often takes place in carefully managed stages rather than through immediate evacuation of the entire building.
Fire alarm systems therefore play a critical role in supporting staff by providing early warning and helping facilitate progressive horizontal evacuation or other evacuation strategies adopted within the building.
Our engineers work closely with care providers, consultants and project teams to ensure fire alarm systems are designed, installed and maintained to support the building's fire strategy and day-to-day operation.
Supporting Current Standards and Best Practice
Fire safety guidance for care homes continues to evolve to reflect the complex nature of these environments.
Current recommendations within BS 5839-1:2025 place increased emphasis on the use of addressable fire alarm systems, comprehensive Category L1 coverage and Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) monitoring within many care environments, helping ensure the earliest possible warning of fire and a rapid response where appropriate.
Whether you're constructing a new care home, refurbishing an existing facility or reviewing an ageing fire alarm system, we can assess your existing installation, explain how current guidance may affect your premises and recommend practical solutions that support both compliance and resident safety.
Installation, Maintenance and Ongoing Support
From initial design and installation through to commissioning, certification and ongoing maintenance, we provide a complete fire alarm service throughout the life of your system.
Routine servicing helps ensure your fire alarm system continues to operate reliably while identifying potential issues before they affect resident safety. Where improvements or modifications are recommended following a Fire Risk Assessment, refurbishment project or changes in occupancy, we can design and implement appropriate upgrades with minimal disruption to residents and staff.
Following every visit, we provide comprehensive service reports, certification and maintenance documentation to support your fire safety records.
We understand that care homes operate around the clock and that resident wellbeing must remain the priority throughout any installation or maintenance works.
Our engineers work respectfully within occupied environments, coordinating with managers and care staff to minimise disruption while maintaining a safe working environment. Wherever possible, servicing and planned works are scheduled around the operational needs of the home, ensuring residents continue to receive the care and support they need.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you assess whether our existing fire alarm system remains suitable?
Yes. We can assess your current fire alarm installation, taking into account the building's fire strategy, current Fire Risk Assessment, evacuation procedures and current guidance, before recommending any improvements where appropriate.
Can you maintain systems? Even if they were installed by another contractor?
Yes. We offer routine servicing and maintenance programmes to help ensure your fire alarm system remains reliable, compliant and fully documented throughout its operational life.
For existing systems an initial assessment may be required as there are some 'closed protocol' systems which we don't cover but most will be fine.
We also hold replacement and emergency stock for systems that we maintain to further limit any downtime.
Do you support organisations with multiple schools or campuses?
Absolutely. We work with organisations responsible for multiple buildings and can provide coordinated servicing, consistent documentation and online access to maintenance records across your estate.
Can you carry out upgrades following a Fire Risk Assessment?
Definitely. We regularly undertake system modifications, upgrades and extensions following recommendations made within Fire Risk Assessments or refurbishment projects.
Our Regulation 38 completion and handover packs are designed to follow the recommendations of BS5839-1:2025 as well a Regulation 38 of the building regulations, providing you with a comprehensive and valuable resource to help with the ongoing management of fire safety within your portfolio.
